How Tastibase works
Tastibase is an independent, AI-powered guide to the best dishes— not just restaurants — across Adelaide and South Australia. Here's exactly how we build the rankings, and how we handle data responsibly.
The method
- We read publicly available restaurant reviews and identify sentences that mention a specific dish.
- A sentiment model (a BERT network trained on 700,000 restaurant reviews) scores how positive each dish mention is.
- We aggregate those signals per dish using Bayesian shrinkage, so a single glowing or fake review can't top the chart — a dish needs consistent praise across many independent mentions.
- Recent reviews are weighted slightly more than old ones. The result is a single 0–10 dish score.
What we publish — and what we don't
Tastibase publishes only aggregate statistics: a numeric score, a sentiment percentage, and a count of how many reviews mentioned a dish. These are facts we compute — they are our own analysis.
We do not reproduce or republish:
- the verbatim text of any individual review;
- the name, photo, or profile of any reviewer;
- any personal information about the people who wrote reviews.
In other words: we show you the score, not the review. The underlying reviews remain on their original platforms, where they belong.
Data sources & attribution
Our scores are derived from publicly available reviews on third-party platforms, including Google and Tripadvisor. Restaurant names, addresses, and map locations are factual business information. Menu items and prices, where shown, are sourced from Uber Eats and may be out of date — always confirm with the restaurant directly.
Tastibase is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored byGoogle, Tripadvisor, Uber Eats, or any restaurant listed. All trademarks, brand names, and review content belong to their respective owners. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
No paid placements
Rankings cannot be bought. No restaurant pays to appear, to rank higher, or to be removed from a “worst” position. The score is the score.
Corrections & removals
If you own or represent a restaurant and believe information here is inaccurate, or you would like your listing reviewed or removed, email [email protected] and we'll respond promptly. See our Terms and Privacy Policy.
